Overview#

A MatchingRuleUse is a schema element that can be used to determine which attributeType can be used in conjunction with a given matchingRule.
Note that this only applies when using extensible match filters.

A MatchingRuleUse definition includes an OID for the matchingRule that it applies to and a list of the names or OIDs of the attribute types that may be used in conjunction with that matchingRule. If an attribute is not included in this list, then it cannot be used in conjunction with the associated matchingRule. If there is no MatchingRuleUse defined for a given matchingRule, then it should be assumed that the matchingRule can be used with any attribute type.

The set of MatchingRuleUses defined in the server may be determined by retrieving the matchingRuleUse attribute of the SubschemaSubentry.
