Unicode is a computing industry standard for the consistent encoding, representation, and handling of text expressed in most of the world's writing systems.

Unicode is an ISO standard set of characters defined by ISO 10646 "Universal Coded Character Set" (UCS) (plus amendments to that standard), which is the basis of many character encodings.

Unicode contains just over 128,000 abstract characters, as of Unicode 9.0, each identified by an unambiguous name and an integer number called its Code Point.
