What Is Vision and Visioneering?#

Vision#

  • b (1) : mode of seeing or conceiving
    • (2) : unusual discernment or foresight <a person of vision>
  • c : direct mystical awareness of the supernatural usually in visible form

Visioneering is NOT. [1]#

It is not about projects, timelines, regulatory requirements, industry best practices or architectural standards. It isn't specifically about IAM either, but visioneering principles can — and should — be applied to enterprise IAM programs. And it definitely isn't something the IAM professional can afford to ignore.

Begins with#

Visioneering begins with "blue-sky" thinking — dreaming about what your enterprise and your organization could achieve if funding and other resources were unlimited. It is not about technology. It is not about vendors or their offerings.

Visioneering is about setting a goal — choosing a destination you want to get to.

It's about taking the "100,000-foot" view that shows where you are now and where you want to be.

It may take some real-world environmental factors, like, regulatory requirements, into consideration, but it isn't bound by them.
After the goal is set, visioneering is about having the will, determination and perseverance necessary to transform the goal into reality.

Visioneering is part of the Concepting and planning Stage for Large Projects.
