Chartered company


Chartered company is a type of Organizational Entity that evolved in the early modern era in primarily Europe.

Chartered company conferred a trading monopoly for the Organizational Entity in a specific geographic area or for a specific type of trade item.

Chartered company enjoyed certain rights and privileges and was bound by certain obligations, under a special charter granted to it by the Sovereignty (or authority of the Jurisdiction), such a charter defining and limiting those rights, privileges, and obligations and the localities in which they were to be exercised.

Chartered company was an association formed by investors or shareholders for the purpose of trade, exploration, and colonization.
