Credential Service Provider


Credential Service Provider (CSP) is an entity that issues digital credentials to subjects and issues or registers authenticators (ie Claims) for subjects’ use.

NIST.SP.800-63-3: A trusted entity that issues or registers subscriber authenticators and issues electronic credentials to subscribers. A CSP MAY be an independent Third-party or issue credentials for its own use. (appname sees this process as Credential Enrollment)

Kantara Initiative's Identity Assurance Framework: an organization which provides the functions of an electronic Identity Proofing and Credential Management Service, either in full or as a discrete component (i.e., a sub-set of the functions).

Credential Service Provider is typically also the Identity Provider (IDP)

Credential Service Provider MAY provide and verify attributes or MAY include attributes provided or verified by other entities.
