The LDAP abandon operation can be used to request that the server stop processing on an outstanding request. The abandon request protocol op is defined as follows:

The message ID provided in the request is the message ID of the operation to abandon.
The abandon operation does not have a response, so there is no way for clients to know whether the abandon operation was successful. Similarly, if an operation was abandoned, then no response will be provided for it, so the client may wait indefinitely for a response that will never be sent. Both of these issues are addressed by the [LDAP Cancel Extended Operation].
Bind, unbind, abandon, and StartTLS extended operations cannot be abandoned.
