An equality (sometimes referred to as a value) index is a type of [LDAP Indexes] which is used to efficiently identify which entries are exactly equal to a given assertion value.
Typically, an equality index may only be maintained for attributes that have a corresponding equality [matchingRule]. That matching rule will be used to [normalize values|Definition -- Normalized Value] to use as index keys, and the value for that key will be the [ID list|Definition -- ID List] containing the [entry IDs|Definition -- Entry IDs] of the entries with values that are equal to that normalized value.
