!!! Overview
[{$pagename}] ([DIB]) is [information|Data] held in an [DSA]
%%information
[RFC 4512] clearly distinguishes the [Directory Information Tree] as the __"Structure"__ or the [entries|LDAP Entry] and the [{$pagename}] as the [Information|Data]. \\Often RFCs and other documents do not make any distinction and use only [Directory Information Tree] for both the __"Structure"__ and the __"Information"__
%%
[Directory Information Tree] ([DIT]) determines how the information is arranged.
A Directory user, which may be a human or other entity, accesses the Directory through a client (or [Directory User Agent] ([DUA])).
The client, on behalf of the directory user, interacts with one or more servers (or [Directory System Agents] ([DSA])).
A server holds at least a fragment of the [{$pagename}] ([DIB]).
The [{$pagename}] contains two classes of information:
* user information (e.g., information provided and administrated by users)
* administrative and operational information (e.g., information used to administer and/or operate the directory)
These two models, referred to as the generic Directory Information Models, describe how information is represented in the Directory.
These generic models provide a framework for other information models.
