Overview#
Event Data Recorder (EDR) is a device installed in some automobiles to record information related to vehicle crashes or accidents.Event Data Recorders in the United States MUST meet federal standards, as described within the United States Code.
Event Data Recorder installation is currently voluntary; however as of 2010 85% of Vehicle manufacturers provided them.
Event Data Recorder, typically, records data in a continuous loop, with newer data overwriting older data. These devices rarely record more than thirty seconds of data.
Event Data Recorder primary purpose is to provide information about traffic crash incidents that may be used to improve vehicle and driver safety.
