United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) is a United States Federal Agency that provides auditing, evaluation, and investigative services for the United States Congress and is the supreme audit institution of the United States federal government.

Often called the "congressional watchdog," GAO examines how taxpayer dollars are spent and provides Congress and federal agencies with objective, reliable information to help the government save money and work more efficiently.
