Overview#

A Low Infrastructure Public Key Mechanism Using SPKM (LIPKEY) is defined in RFC 2847 and describes a method whereby one can use Generic Security Service Application Program Interface, Version 2 (RFC 2078) to supply a secure channel between a client and server, authenticating the client with a password, and a server with a Public Key certificate.

As such, it is analogous to the common low infrastructure usage of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol RFC 2246.

A Low Infrastructure Public Key Mechanism Using SPKM requires that the SPKM-3 implementation support all the mechanism independent name types in Generic Security Service Application Program Interface, Version 2 (RFC 2078).

The Simple Public-Key GSS-API Mechanism (SPKM RFC 2025) defines various algorithms for integrity, confidentiality, key establishment, and subkey derivation.
