AWS Elastic Block Store (EBS) is a Amazon Web Service that provides persistent Block storage device for use with Amazon EC2 instances in the AWS Cloud.AWS Elastic Block Store, once attached to an AWS Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) instance, a File System can be created on top of the Block storage

- Provisioned IOPS SSD - I/O intensive Applications with 10,000 IOPS such as Relational Database Management System and NoSQL

- Magnetic Standard can have a Boot Loader
- ST1 is a throughput optimized HDD which can not have a Boot Loader
- SC1 Cold HDD - Cold Storage HDD which can not have a Boot Loader
- Encrypted at no cost (but NOT by default)
