American Bar Association is at least from most US States has Legal Authorization to at least control some Regulatory compliance

For example,

  • in Ohio you are required to have a law degree from an American Bar Association approved law school; and
  • To gain admission to a law school that is accredited by the American Bar Association  (ABA), applicants must usually take the  Law School Admission Test  (LSAT)

Although it has no formal authority to discipline lawyers who break the ABA’s ethical code, it influences state bars that do have that power.
