Overview#

CVM or Cardholder Verification Method is the method used to validate Authentication that the person presenting the Bank Card Number is the valid cardholder.

EMV CVMs#

EMV supports four CVMs:

• Offline PIN - Either offline enciphered & plain text)
• Online PIN
• signature verification
• CVM

All CVMs can be available on all payment types (credit, debit and prepaid) as defined by the Card Issuer. The Merchant chooses which CVMs they will support. The Card Issuer sets a prioritized list of methods on the chip for verification of the cardholder.
