Certificate Request Process is the process where an Entity is requesting a Certificate be issued or renewed by a Registration Authority or a Certificate Authority.

The Registration Authority is responsible for the initial Identity Proofing during a Certificate Request Process before a Certificate can be issued by a Certificate Authority.
