Overview#

Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) is an Health Level Seven (HL7) XML-based markup standard intended to specify the encoding, structure and semantics of Clinical Data documents for exchange.

Clinical Document Architecture is an ANSI-certified standard from Health Level Seven International (HL7.org). Release 1.0 was published in November, 2000 and Release 2.0 was published with the HL7 2005 Normative Edition.

Clinical Document Architecture is used in the Continuity of Care Document (CCD).
