[{$pagename}] ([DSE]), we often use [RootDSE].

All [LDAPv3] servers should provide a special [LDAP Entry] that provides information about the capabilities of that server and the data that it contains. 

This entry is called the [rootDSE] (where ([DSE]) stands for [{$pagename}]), and it is the entry that has the [null] [DN] (i.e., the [DN] with zero [RDNs], and a string representation that is the empty string).

[RFC 2251] states "The root of the [DIT] is a [{$pagename}] and not part of any [naming Context]."
