Data Encapsulation Method (DEM also seen as Data Encapsulation Scheme) also known as data hiding, is the mechanism whereby the implementation details of a class are kept hidden from the user.

The user can only perform a restricted set of operations on the hidden members of the class by executing special functions commonly called methods.

Cryptography#

A (stateless) Data Encapsulation Method consists of three polynomial-time algorithms:

• the randomized key-generation algorithm produces a uniformly distributed key
• a message is encrypted under the key to produce the ciphertext
• a possessor of the key decrypts the ciphertext to get back a message
