Overview#
Identity Document (also called a piece of identification or ID, or colloquially as papers) is any document which may be used for Identification an Entity or verify aspects of an Entity's identity.
Identity Document is used to perform or verify Authentication.
Identity Document is often utilized by a Verifier during Credential Enrollment or for other Identity Proofing activities.
If issued in a small, standard Payment Card size form, it is usually called an Identity Card (ID Card).
When the Identity Document incorporates an Entity's photograph, it may be called Photo ID.
Identity Document may be either printed or a Digital Identity.
Identity Document may represent a non-person entity. Examples would be:
- Automobile Title
- Real Estate Deed
Identity Documents may be only passed by-reference implying the Identity Document is simply a Unique Identifier that is a reference to the Identity Document.
