Issuer Identification Number is a numbering system for an International Identification system for various industries defined in ISO 7812

Bank Card Number#

Issuer Identification Number (IIN) is the first 6 digits of your Bank Card Number (including the initial Major Industry Identifier digit).

We also see Issuer Identification Number described as Bank Identification Number (BIN).

Issuer Identification Number is used in the Integrated Circuit Card IDentifier

National Council for Prescription Drug Programs#

Issuer Identification Numbers are also used on National Council for Prescription Drug Programs pharmacy claims to identify processors, and are printed on all pharmacy insurance cards. IINs are the primary routing mechanism for real-time claims.

Issuer Identification Number is NOT[1] #

The Issuer Identification Number differs from the Bank Identifier Code (BIC/ISO 9362, a normalized code—also known as Business Identifier Code, Bank International Code, and SWIFT code). It also differs from Universal Payment Identification Code, another identifier for a bank account in the United States.
