Overview#

Logical Link Control IEEE 802 splits the OSI-Model Data-link Layer into two sub-layers named Logical Link Control (LLC) and Media Access Control (MAC)

Logical Link Control is defined within the IEEE 802.2 specification.

Logical Link Control sublayer provides multiplexing mechanisms that make it possible for several network protocols (e.g. IP, Internet Protocol Exchange, Decnet and AppleTalk) to coexist within a multipoint network and to be transported over the same network medium.

Logical Link Control can also provide flow control and Automatic Repeat-reQuest (ARQ) error management mechanisms.

Logical Link Control sublayer acts as an interface between the Media Access Control (MAC) sublayer and the Network Layer.
