Before we get started with actually building our cables, let's take a few minutes to explore the A look at the Network Cable standards.

Making a Patch Cable#

A patch cable, as used here, is a cable that would be used from a PC to the wall or PC to a network Hub or Switch.

Network Crossover Cable#

Crossover cables are used to connect two machines without the use of a hub, switch, or router. While similar to a standard CAT 5 cable, the wiring in a crossover cable is actually quite different.
