Overview#
Network Time Security (
NTS) is described in
RFC 8195 as a mechanism for using
Transport Layer Security (
TLS) and
Authenticated Encryption with Associated Data (
AEAD) to provide
Cryptographic security for the
Client-server mode of the Network Time Security (
NTP) or the
Network Time Protocol (
NTP) or the
Precision Time Protocol (
PTP).
Network Time Security design considers the special requirements of precise timekeeping which are described in Security Requirements of Time Protocols in Packet Switched Networks RFC 7384
