Overview#

Phone Number Portability is the process where exiting Phone Numbers can be "ported" from Phone Provider of services to another.

Phone Number Portability Exploit#

Land Line Phone Numbers they rarely use, it has proven to be an easy exploit for criminals.

For example, that their Land Line is not getting calls anymore. Evidently, telephone companies and mobile carriers don't ask too many questions when a user asks to have a number ported over, so anybody can port over another person's number with relative ease.

The Attackers can set up an Mobile Payment account under the name of the user who actually owns the ported telephone number. Criminals then could use stolen Payment Card data to load into Mobile Payment.
