Overview#

Platform Authenticator is a Web Authentication API (WebAuthN) WebAuthn Authenticator which is an Implementation of the WebAuthn Authenticator Model and is usually resident (i.e. Built-in) on a WebAuthn Client Device and cannot be accessed via cross-platform Transport Layer protocols such as USB, NFC or BLE.

Examples of Platform Authenticators include built-in laptop or Mobile Device fingerprint readers or Facial recognition using Mobile Device cameras.

Platform Authenticators may be:

• Biometrics with TPM or TEE/Secure Element
  • Fingerprint Reader
  • Facial recognition/Iris recognition/Voice recognition
• PIN/pattern/passphrase with TPM or TEE/Secure Element
