Overview#

Proof of Ownership is the method by which an Digital Identity can use Cryptography prove ownership.

Proof of Ownership MAY be separate from Proof of Control. A Digital Identity may wish to Delegate one or more other Digital Identities to update "owned" entity. For example, to assist with Credential Recovery or Key Recovery without enabling them to have Proof of Ownership (and thus be able to impersonate the owner).

There are various contexts in witch Proof of Ownership might be used.

Certificate Validation#

Certificate Validation is one method.

DID descriptor objects (DDO)#

DID descriptor objects defines the entities separate as DID Owner and a DID Guardian.

Authentication#

Authentication is often used as a method of Proof of Ownership.
