Synchronization Points allow a synchronization cycle to pick up at the exact point where it left off if that cycle was interrupted for any reason. A synchronization cycle can be interrupted because of an error during the synchronization process. The directory agent can also intentionally interrupt it in order to process requests from another server before continuing the interrupted cycle.
By default, in Novell eDirectory 8.6 through 8.7, the directory agent does not interrupt a synchronization cycle automatically. Instead, Synchronization Points are only leveraged in the event of a communications failure or other error. However, these four configuration parameters were introduced to configure synchronization behavior by specifying finite units of work.
SYNC PANE ENTRIES EVAL specifies the maximum number of entries to evaluate to determine if they have changes to send. The supported values are:
SYNC PANE ENTRIES SENT specifies the maximum number of entries with changes to send to the destination replica in one window of synchronization (Sync Pane). The supported values are:
SYNC PANE VALUES SENT specifies the maximum number of values with changes to send to the destination replica in one window of synchronization (Sync Pane). The supported values are:
SYNC PANE EXPIRE TIME specifies the maximum number of seconds to spend synchronizing. The supported values are:
The default values of these configuration parameters prevent the interruption of a synchronization cycle except in the case of an error. Currently, Novell does not recommend that these configuration parameters be changed except during laboratory experimentation. Using these configuration parameters to change the default behavior of synchronization is not currently recommended for production systems.
