United States PATRIOT Act is an Act of United States Congress that was signed into law by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001.[1] With its ten-letter abbreviation (USA PATRIOT) expanded, the full title is "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act".March 2020, the United States Senate passed a 77-day extension however the United States House of Representatives did not before departing for recess on March 27, 2020 implying the United States PATRIOT Act along with the so-called lone wolf and the roving wiretap provisions have expired, at least for a few weeks.

In November 2019, the renewal of the Patriot Act was included in the stop-gap legislation[11] The expired provisions required renewal by March 15, 2020.[12]United States PATRIOT Act was extended by President Barack Obama signed the United States PATRIOT Act Sunsets Extension Act of 2011, a four-year extension of three key provisions in the United States PATRIOT Act:

• searches of business records
• conducting surveillance of "lone wolves"—individuals suspected of terrorist-related activities not linked to terrorist groups.
