Identity Correlation

Overview#

Identity Correlation (often referred to a Account Linking) is a process that provides Correlation and (hopefully) Validation the proper ownership of disparate user Digital Identities that reside on systems and applications link ownership of those Digital Identities to particular Digital Subject and possibly to a Natural Person

Identity Correlation is a process performed by a Identity Broker

Identity Correlation is a Privacy Consideration

Identity Correlation may be performed from aspects of a session even if the Authentication of the Digital Identity has not yet been performed. The Identity Broker may only have Identification of the Digital Identity enough to distinguish them from the Anonymity Set by using a cookie and/or a device fingerprint

Identity Correlation may be performed Server-side or Client-side with or without the Digital Identity participation or Consent

Identity Correlation results in a "linking" of two or more Digital Identities into a Digital Subject (or principal)
