Overview#

Mobile Driver License (mDL) is a digital representation that replaces a physical Driver License.

Mobile Driver License is an An International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard for the mobile driving license (ISO 18013-5) was approved on August 18, 2021 and published on 30 September 2021

Mobile Driver License specifies interoperable technical mechanisms to obtain and trust the data from an mDL for in-person transactions. Data transfer is only initiated by the mDL holder after giving affirmative consent.

National Institute of Standards and Technology partnered with Gemalto to pilot the "digital driver's license".
