Overview#

National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) is a Government Data Store for Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) operated by American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA)

United States Department of Justice (DOJ) is responsible for reviewing significant operational decisions and ensuring National Motor Vehicle Title Information System program requirements are met. In addition, DOJ is responsible for overseeing both policy and enforcement elements of the NMVTIS program. Bureau of Justice Assistance coordinates enforcement activities with the:

• Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
• National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
• US State and local law enforcement agencies

BJA works in partnership with the system operator, American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA).
