Overview#
One-party consent refers to the Federal law
U.S.C. Title 18 Part I Chapter 119 § 2511 -
Interception (i.e.
Wiretapping)and disclosure of wire, oral, or electronic communications prohibited but also permits
recording telephone calls and in-person conversations with the
consent of at least one of the parties.
One-party consent you can record a phone call or conversation so long as you are a party to the conversation.
Furthermore, if you are not a party to the conversation, a "one-party consent" law will allow you to record the conversation or phone call so long as your source consents and has full knowledge that the communication will be recorded.
With regards to
Video Surveillance as there is an important
legal distinction between
Video Surveillance or
Photograph which is fully protected and the
Audio Surveillance portion which some states regulate under state
wiretapping laws.
